The Scottish Arts Council has announced two major new bursaries for Scotland’s dance artists. Anna Krzystek has been awarded the inaugural Choreographic Fellowship while Ross Cooper will take part in the first New York Residency. The Choreographic Fellowship provides a mid-career choreographer with the opportunity to explore, experiment and develop their practice while the New York Residency provides a dance artist with the opportunity to live and work for up to 10 weeks in New York. This new investment has been developed to reflect the Scottish Arts Council’s priorities for 2007-09, one of which is to increase the scope and quality of support to artists to help fulfil their creative and business potential. Anita Clark, Head of Dance at the Scottish Arts Council, said that ‘In 2006, the Scottish Arts Council announced that one of its main priorities would be to increase the scope and quality of our support for artists. In the dance department we are delivering this through increased investment in choreographers and support for choreographic practice. ‘Dance in Scotland has been through a period of unprecedented growth fuelled by dynamic and creative choreographers. Through this fellowship and residency Anna and Ross will have the opportunity to delve deeper into their working methods, placing their work within international contexts. I look forward to seeing the impact this will have on their ongoing practice.’ For more information, CLICK HERE
