Senior official stresses importance of meeting cultural needs of public

A senior Chinese official has called for more efforts to develop public cultural services to satisfy people with different needs.
Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks during a visit to central China's Hubei Province. Li said China should build more cultural facilities and provide more cultural works to the public.
He stressed the importance of including the system of public cultural service in the overall economic and social development program of governments at all levels. 'Priority should be given to mass cultural activities and cultural facilities in rural areas,' he said.
