Takeover Day: Students take control…

Arts Council England,
20 November 2007, England

Organised by 11 Million, a recently re-branded Office of the Children’s Commissioner for England, the day invites the 11 million young people in England to takeover leading institutions, jobs and organisations for the day. Takeover Day also forms part of the celebrations of the 18th birthday of the United Nations Conventions on the Rights of the Child, which was ‘born’ on the November 20 1989. Arts Council England, North East will be participating in Takeover Day on Friday 23 November. This exciting event involves two groups of pupils from schools in the region who have been invited to ‘take over’ our office for the day as part of a national campaign.
Takeover Day provides the opportunity for organisations to showcase how they already involve children and young people in their work, or to provide a kick-start to involving children and young people in their organisation.
At Arts Council England, North East, children from both Broadway Junior School in Sunderland and a group of sixth-form students from Ryton Comprehensive School in Gateshead will be taking part. Both groups will interview artists about funding proposals on the day, interview staff about their roles and visit some of the region’s arts organisations.
