Master in Cultural Projects for Development

This Master programme in Cultural Projects for Development combines essential knowledge of cultural economics and cultural policies with the competences needed to design projects in the cultural field. Case studies and study visits are an integral part of the course, designed to facilitate the application of the learning into practice, with emphasis on exploring promotion and marketing policies and techniques of cultural assets in Italy.

The Master, conducted in English is now in its fifth edition. The previous editions were attended by approx 76 students from 45 countries from Africa, Middle East, Asia and Pacific, Europe and the Americas.

The overall objective of the Master is to provide participants with the conceptual grounding and the operational competences needed to use cultural heritage and cultural capital as a resource for economic development and employment generation.

The programme addresses a number of critical questions in the cultural field, like:

  • How to use culture for supporting local development efforts?
  • How cultural strategies and policies contribute to sustainable development?
  • How to design, manage and improve a cultural project?
  • How to solicit financial support for a cultural project?
  • What are the defining characteristics of sustainable projects in the cultural field?
  • What is the impact of globalization on the formulation of national and local cultural policies?

A limited number of scholarships is available to participants from developing and transitions countries.
The programme will take place from 15 June 2007 to 15 March 2008.
