Ministry of Culture,
26 February 2008, Ecuador

The President of the Republic appointed Galo Mora, former advisor of the Head of State, Minister of Culture as Minister of Culture. The event took place on February 20 at the Salón Amarillo of the Palacio de Carondelet.

The new Secretary of State announced that he will promote the construction of the National System for Culture, ‘in order to avoid disconnected work of cultural institutions and that will take into account vulnerable and minority sectors, people of indigenous and African descent nationalities, creators of all ethnic groups, indigenous and afro-descendent nationalities, and ideologies of various origins’.

He also explained that the Ministry will be, above all, a body that will give rise to processes, that will give recognition to the cultural richness of the country and that will motivate creative activity – things that have nothing to do with producing an pro-government culture. ‘It does not matter how much time is necessary to take to completion a national agenda for culture in which all those participating have the right to speak in the debate and to vote’, he emphasized.
