Ministry of Culture,
14 March 2008, Colombia

On March 14, 2008 Law 1185 was sanctioned, which reforms Colombia’s General Law for Culture in three areas: cultural heritage, arts and culture councils, and film rating. This Law was initiated at the National Congress on July 21, 2006 and was approved during its extraordinary sessions of February 2008. Its most important aspects are:

Cultural Heritage
A tax deduction is approved for any company that supports projects intended to preserve cultural expressions and to the proprietors of real estate considered of cultural interest. The Law created the Cultural Heritage National System and the regional and district cultural heritage councils.

Arts and culture councils
The Law allows regional and district authorities to create arts and culture councils as advisory bodies for cultural policies.

Film rating committee
A new member was appointed as a representative of the academic sector.
