Issue 3/2008 of the multilingual journal Economia della Cultura, edited by the Associazione per l'Economia della Cultura / AEC, that devotes its theme to discussing Unesco's Convention on the Protection and the Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, is introduced by Carla Bodo and Silvana Buzzo.
The contribution by Giacomo Mazzone takes a look at the Convention's predecessors, the diverging expectations raised within regions and countries, and the vested interests that arise with the Convention's implementation. The paper by Culturelink Director Biserka Cvjetičanin is concerned with instruments of the Convention's implementation and its monitoring, requiring the engagement of all interested parties, states, international organizations and non-governmental actors around the world. The article by Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni and Kathrin Merkle looks at the Council of Europe's longstanding engagement in cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, analysing its tools and features relevant for the monitoring of the Convention at the European level. In his contribution, François de Bernard analyses the language distortion suffered by the expressions of "cultural diversity" and "intercultural dialogue", aiming to disentangle their media-fed semantic assimilation. Finally, Luciana Castellina devotes herself to some taxing questions that arise from the implementation of the Convention, and David Throsby offers some theoretical and practical guidelines for the future implementation of its Article 13.
