China to strengthen control of cultural products for Beijing Olympics

Xinhua,
26 April 2008, China

China will heighten supervision and control of cultural products as part of the ministry's five-month campaign to create a 'safe and harmonious cultural environment' for the Olympics, an official of the Ministry of Culture said on Saturday.

Illegal cultural items should be removed, said Vice Minister of Culture Zhao Weisui. Zhao said pirated publications, especially Olympic ones, will be targeted in a bid to protect Olympic intellectual property right.

The ministry ordered tighter supervision over entertainment venues and cultural activities to ensure neither major security accidents nor mass incidents will happen before or during the Olympics. Organizing cultural activities in the name of Olympics without permission will be prohibited, said Zhao.
