Ministry of Culture commits to supporting audiovisual and digital culture

The Ministry is calling for proposals to the grant ‘Appropriation of audiovisual and digital culture’. It is part of the National Audiovisual Plan (PAN) and the Digital Culture Project that the Ministry of Culture carries out countrywide. The Communications (Broadcasting) and Cinematography Departments of the Ministry launched this grant which will give out more than COP 567 million this year to projects that seek to get communities closer to the audiovisual realm, new technologies and digital culture.

“This grant seeks to acknowledge experience in process and to give an incentive to new proposals in the audiovisual and digital realm throughout the country. One of its purposes is to achieve the development of local projects where communities reflect on and tell stories about themselves” stated Paula Marcela Moreno, Minister of Culture.

This new grant is directed towards individuals and non-profit public, mixed and private organizations whose objectives include cultural and/or educational activities.

Three categories make up the grant: support to the appropriation of audiovisual culture, use of ICT in communication projects that have social inclusion objectives, and the acquisition of regional audiovisual material in DVD format for the National Audiovisual Plan’s collection.

More about the categories:

• Support to the appropriation of audiovisual culture. The objective of this category, which closes June 25, is to promote local communal video production projects, training in communal video creation and audience education, carried out by organizations that contribute to the strengthening of audiovisual culture. It does not apply to projects that ask for provision of audiovisual production equipments.

• Use of ICT in communication projects with social inclusion objectives. This category, which is directed towards organizations that carry out cultural and/or educational activities, closes on June 25. It seeks to acknowledge and promote the creativity and work of people, institutions, organizations and communal associations that lead communication projects that rely on ICT. • Acquisition of regional audiovisual material in DVD format for the National Audiovisual Plan’s collection. The objective of this category, with a deadline of July 18, is to buy 100 copies of regional titles with cultural exhibition copyright for five (5) years, of a length less than 70 minutes,that will build up the Plan’s collection in DVD format to be used for audiovisual appreciation processes as part of the Plan.
