The Ministry of Culture is committed to the artistic expression of people with physical disabilities

01 July 2008, Colombia

The Ministry has just opened the call for proposals to participate in the XV National Biennial of Art and Visual Expressions for People with Physical Disabilities and to participate in the training workshops that will be organized in preparation for it.

The Ministry of Culture, in cooperation with the Association of Friends of the Physically Disabled, invites children, adolescents and adults of all the municipalities of Colombia to send proposals to take part in the XV National Biennial of Art and Visual Expressions for People with Physical Disabilities, a biannual program that has been running for the last 30 years. Proposals will be accepted between August 1 and 15 of this year.

The XV National Biennial of Art and Visual Expressions for People with Physical Disabilities is an event that expects to present artistic creations and visual expressions of Colombians who are disabled, with the objective of stimulating and supporting their social inclusion and creative development, and with the intention of providing them with a space for local and national showcasing of their works. It will take place between September 17 and 26, 2008 at the Suramericana Exhibit Room in Medellín.

As part of the XV Biennial, the Ministry of Culture, through the Arts unit, invites participation in the laboratory “Spaces for Gestual Exchange: Approaches to the Corporeality of Drawing”, an education course run by the Collective OTRO, that will be held in Bogotá and Pereira simultaneously, between August 1-3, 15-17, and 29-31, 2008.

For Clarisa Ruiz, Director of Arts of the Ministry of Culture, “this laboratory aims to create a space for creative and pedagogical exploration for teachers of people with physical disabilities in the field of the arts, in order to allow them to create, within their professional activity, research methodologies that can lead them to make the most out of the creative and expressive processes of their students”.

This is why the only requirement to take part in this laboratory is to be currently working as a facilitator or teacher of education courses for the physically disabled, in the area of the arts. The registration forms, that are available on the Ministry of Culture’s website, will be accepted until July 25, 2008.
