Meeting of the council of territorial authorities for cultural development

Ministère de la culture et de la communication,
11 July 2008, France

Christine Albanel, Minister of Culture and Communication, met with the council of territorial authorities for cultural development on the 10th of July. This Council is comprised of the major associations of elected representatives of the territorial authorities, and aims to be a place for exchanges and dialogue between the associations and the Minister for Culture and Communication.

Since the decentralization laws of the 1980s, the cultural landscape of France has greatly evolved and the territorial authorities have played a major role in this transformation.

In the regions, the State is no longer the only advisor, which others involved must follow, but is a partner in cultural policy.

These changes make it necessary to enliven the opportunities for reflection and analysis which allow the cultural challenges of the future to be faced, favouring a true dialogue, equal to equal.

The Council, which has not met for five years, was able to define the themes of work for the coming months around broad subjects such as heritage, education and training, the evolution of television, with TNT being extended to all territories by the end of 2011, and follow-up to the ‘Entretiens de Valois’.
