New Ministry of Culture and State Restructuring not welcomed by everyone in Nepal

According to Nepalnews.com and kantipuronline.com the move to create a new Ministry of Culture and State Restructuring has not been welcomed by everyone. Terai Madhesh Loktantrik Party (TMLP) has raised serious objection to the formation of the Ministry for Culture and State Restructuring, warning of withdrawing support to the government if the ministry, held by CPN-Maoist, is not scrapped right away.

In the year 2000, Culture was integrated into the Nepal Ministry of Tourism & Civil Aviation and became known as the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MOCTCA). In August 31, 2008 the ministry once more returned to its former name and a new Ministry created to deal with culture, entitled the Ministry of Culture and State Restructuring.

Organising a press conference in the capital Sunday, TMLP chairman Mahantha Thakur said the government does not have a right to decide on restructuring of the state, which is something only the Constituent Assembly can decide.

By creating the ministry the government has tried to curtail the authority of the CA, Thakur said, adding that TMLP wants fresh census before the process of state restructuring begins.

According to him, TMLP will withdraw support to the government and launch agitation if the government fails to fulfill its demand.
