Introducing Tune Up 2008/2009

Scottish Arts Council,
25 September 2008, Scotland

Tune Up, the Scottish Arts Council, National Lottery funded initiative that supports musicians to play in venues as far and wide as Scotland itself, is ready to hit the road with a new round of tours.

Divided into two seasons of tours, the first will run from October 2nd to December 08, with the second season covering February to June 09 sending artists such as Roddy Woomble and Julie Fowlis on their way to venues in 26 different Scottish cities, towns, villages and islands not normally included on conventional tours.

Tune Up takes bands like Injuns and artists such as Claes Cem from the indie ambience of Glasgow’s Barfly to Portree Community Centre on their native Isle of Skye, and allows them to deliver their startlingly original musicianship to a whole new range of audiences.

“We are delighted with the diverse programme of tours - the people of Scotland are in for musical treats over the course of the next nine months. Whether it is an international jazz trio, brand new music from some of Britain's finest folk musicians, contemporary classical, rock or indie, you will find some of the best musicians playing right on your doorsteps. It’s also great this year to see tours from a number of independent Scottish record labels – another sign of the wealth of talent in the music sector”.  Stuart Thomas - Scottish Arts Council
