Minister for Culture and State Restructuring Gopal Kirati Saturday said that the government should not provide funds to selected communities to celebrate their festivals. Alluding to the funds that the government provides for the animal sacrifice and other purpose during Dashain, Minister Kirati said that it is unfair to support a community only.

Minister Kirati further said that the government would bring in a policy after Tihar, one of the major festivals followed by Dashain, so as to forbid the government ministers from attending the festivals apart from those organised by the government.

Speaking at a programme in the capital today, he informed that preparation is being made to introduce the policy.

Claiming that government employees maliciously circulated wrong information regarding the slashing of funds for cultural festivals recently, he charged that they were responsible for the recent agitation by the Newar Community in the capital.
