Writers’ House to be established in building of Writers’ Union

Writers’ House will be established in the building of Writers’ Union. Gigi Ugulava, the mayor of Tbilisi, stated the following in the briefing held today.

According to the Mayor, the historical building located on Machabeli Street # 13, which belonged to the Writers’ Union, will be given to Georgian writers under two conditions.

‘The first, the building must fulfill the function, its founder gave to it in XIX century, it is the house of Georgian writers. The second- the building will represent the state property.’ – Ugulava remarked.

According to the Mayor, the Ministry of Culture of Georgia will institute ‘Writers’ House ‘on Machabeli Street # 13. After arranging juridical issues, a board of guardians will be established, which will announce a completion for the position of the administrator of the ‘Writers’ House ‘.

The historical building located on Machabeli Street # 13, which belonged to the Writers’ Union, have been subordinate to the Ministry of Economy since 2006. Writers’ Union was moved from the building in summer of 2007.
