Scotland Live 2008 Launch

Scottish Arts Council,
27 October 2008, Scotland

Culture Minister welcomes thirty international arts promoters to sample the best of Scottish theatre and dance.

Scotland Live is an international showcase to highlight the work of Scottish theatre and dance artists. The Federation of Scottish Theatre (FST) has been funded by the Scottish Arts Council to host performances and events across Scotland from Tuesday 28 October to Saturday 1 November.

Scotland’s Minister for Europe, External Affairs and Culture, Linda Fabiani MSP will welcome a delegation of international arts promoters at the opening event of Scotland Live 2008 on Tuesday 28th October.

The 30 international arts promoters will attend 18 performances by a range of Scottish theatre and dance companies in venues across Scotland including Glasgow, St Andrews, Perth and Edinburgh.

Part of the showcase has been curated by an independent panel, and these performances will be complemented by work currently being performed across Scotland.
The programme includes award winning Al Seed’s The Fooligan and Janis Claxton Dance’s Songs are Sung, accompanied by the Edinburgh Quartet.

As part of Scotland Live, FST will also host a symposium on 29 October in Glasgow where delegates can meet Scottish theatre and dance companies who are not participating in the main programme.

Scotland Live 2008 is set to enhance the international profile of Scottish theatre and dance, which is a priority for the Scottish Arts Council, and follows on from a Scotland Live delegation which FST hosted in 2006.
