Secretary for Culture supports the project of a National Law for Music

Nation’s Culture Secretariat,
19 December 2008, Argentina

José Nun declared his support for the project of a National Law for Music at a hearing held on Thursday, December 18th with various music organizations, coordinated by the Independent Federation of Argentinean Musicians (FIMA).

“The Nation’s Culture Secretariat eagerly supports, and will accompany this project in every legal step, which intends to improve the conditions in which musical activity is carried out”, assured Nun.

This meeting is a result of the Second Argentinean Congress on Culture that took place in Tucumán, where this proposal was explicitly supported. The future National Law for Music will promote the creation of the National Music Institute, which will generate tools for the production, distribution and diffusion of recorded music; the coordination of stable circuits for live music; the active participation in musical education, and the awarding of credits and subsidies for musical production, among other matters.

Present at the hearing were Liliana Herrero, Teresa Parodi and Raúl Carnota (Selfsummoned Musicians); Diego Boris (FIMA); Cristian Aldana (Indepent Musicians Collective); Carlos Casciani (MIMM – Musicians from Mendoza); Fox Colonna (Neuquén’s Independent Musicians Association; Daniel Pérez (QUBIL – Rosario’s Independent Musician, and Gustavo Zurbano (U. of Mus – Buenos Aires Province).

This project is endorsed by the Argentinean Summoned Musicians Movement which arose after the ex President Néstor Kirchner repealed the decree that regulated the so-called Law for the Musical Performer.
