French Government Decorates the Secretary Minister of Culture

The Secretary Minister of Culture, Ticio Escobar, will receive today the Gentleman insignia of the French Order of the Arts and Literature from France’s ambassador in Paraguay, Gilles Bienvenu.

Ticio Escobar, Secretary Minister of Culture, will be awarded this afternoon the Gentleman insignia of the French Order of the Arts and Literature, at the ambassador’s residence.

The ceremony will take place at 19:00. This insignia is one of the main honorary distinctions granted by the French government.

This prize rewards people, French or foreign, that have excelled in artistic or literary creation or that have contributed to cultures development in France and in the world.

The prize received by Ticio Escobar had been awarded by Christine Albanel, France’s Minister of Culture and Communication, on Febrary 2007, previously to his appointment as National Culture Secretary of Fernando Lugo’s government.

Ticio Escobar was born in Asunción in 1947. He is curator, professor, art critic and cultural promoter. He is lawyer and philosopher. He directed the Indigenous Art Museum of the Visual Arts Centre. He worked as Head of Culture of Asuncion Municipality (1992-1996) and was president of the Paraguayan Chapter of the International Association of Art Critics. He’s member of the Philosophy Doctorate in the area of Aesthetics and Art Theory of Chile’s University and author of Paraguay’s National Law for Culture (Escobar Law 3051/06). He’s author of “Una interpretación de las artes visuales en el Paraguay”, “El mito del arte y el mito del pueblo”, “Misión: etnocidio” and “Textos varios sobre cultura, transición y modernidad”, among others.
