The hybrid could not be more fertile. It is about putting together avant-garde cinema and contemporary art, videoart, multimedia art and artistic trends resulting from the burst of new technologies. The name of this adventure is Rencontres Internationales, that originated in Paris and Berlin and to which Madrid joined a few seasons ago. This XVIII edition will take place in Spain’s capital city from today until April 25. 150 artists from all over the world will attend the Rencontres and 200 unpublished works will be brought to the light.

Les Rencontres were presented yesterday at the Ministry of Culture at a ceremony hosted by the General Director of Fine Arts, José Jiménez; the General Director of Archives, Museums and Libraries of Madrid’s Community, Isabell Rossell; Berta Sichel, Reina Sofia Museum’s Audiovisual Department Director, and the Rencontres’ Directors, Jean-François Rettig and Nathalie Hénon. Rettig himself added that “one of the main objectives of Les Rencontres is to reflect on contemporary creativity by exploring and making available to wider audiences works that examine critically our time’s image”.
