The Ministry of Culture gets underway in state museums itineraries around women in art

The Minister of Culture, Ángeles González-Sinde, accompanied by the rector of the Universidad Complutense, Carlos Berzosa, presented today at the Museo Reina Sofia an initiative of the Ministry of Culture to launch museum itineraries around women and art in the 17 state museums. The launch, which coincides with the celebration of International Women's Day, was attended by directors of the Prado, Miguel Zugaza, Reina Sofia, Manuel Borja-Villel, National Archaeological Rubí Sanz, and Suit, Rafael Garcia.

In her speech, the minister stressed that "to establish a gender perspective into our work, we are not only improving our cultural policies, we will also be making our culture, a better one. With less exclusion and more recognition, more reality criteria".

In the first part of this project, the first in Europe, four-state museums Prado, Reina Sofia, National Archaeological and National Costume, have set in their permanent exhibitions, itineraries that depict the female role and will enable visitors to discover the presence of women in their collections.

In this sense, Angeles Gonzalez-Sinde said that more museums will join the initiative and highlight the exemplary nature of it, which meant that "from all the museums in our country is promoting a change towards gender equality in the culture of Spain .

Moreover, and as a result of an agreement between the Ministry of Culture and the Universidad Complutense, Feminist Research Institute of this university is conducting a study that examines the work and presence of women in the permanent collections of Spanish museums.
