Érika Sylva is the New Minister of Culture

On April 22, at the premises of the Secretary of State, Érika Sylva, new Minister of Culture, met Ramiro Noriega, outgoing Minister, to be informed on actions undertaken during his administration and to coordinate the transfer of functions to further the country’s cultural development in different fields.

Érika Sylva, sociologist and professor, took possession as Minister of Culture on April 21st, 2010 at the Yellow Room of the Republic’s Presidency. She declared that one of her main objectives would be to promote a cultural change among Ecuadoreans.

Érika Sylva Charvet stated during the ceremony: “It is necessary to promote cultural change, new values, a new vision of who we are, to fight racism, elitism, and to promote interculturalism among Ecuadorians, both women and men”.
