ProCultura Funds: Circus, Dance, Theatre, Visual Arts and Music

The Ministério da Cultura, through the Secretaria de Fomento e Incentivo à Cultura and Funarte, launched new tenders for the selection of circus, dance, theatre, visual arts and music projects. The total investment is R$ 48 million. O Prêmio ProCultura de Estímulo ao Circo, Dança e Teatro has the largest budget. R$ 22,2 million will be destined to award 197 projects in the categories of artistic production, Programs of Performing Spaces and Replacement of Circus Tent (big top) and/or accessories.

R$ 14 million will be invested in visual arts. Prêmio ProCultura de Estímulo às Artes Visuais will take into account projects that aim at building or expanding libraries; publishing newspapers or journals on visual arts; researching arts collections and purchasing artworks representative of Brazilian visual arts.

In the Música area, three tenders were published that sum up to R 11,8 million. Prêmio ProCultura de Apoio a Festivais e Mostras de Música will take into account 60 projects and will invest R$ 5,8 million. Prêmio ProCultura de Apoio à Banda de Música will award a total of R$ 4,5 million to purchase wind and percussion instruments. 176 bands from all over the country will be taken into account. Each one will receive up to R$ 25 mil. Prêmio ProCultura Palcos Musicais Permanentes foresees an investment of R$ 1,5 million for private venues with up to 600 seats and continuous artistic program. 15 projects will be awarded and each one will receive R$ 100 mil.

This prizes belong to the ProCultura Program, launched by Juca Ferreira, Minister of Culture, past October 20, in Brasilia. First, 15 tenders were published. Until the end of November, new tenders will be launched. In total, R$ 300 million will be invested through eight sectorial funds: Access and Diversity; Transversal Actions and Cultural Polices Equalization; Visual Arts; Circus, Dance and Theatre; Audiovisual Innovation; Books, Reading, Literature and Portuguese Language; Music; Heritage and Memory.

The resources come from the Fundo Nacional da Cultura. The FNC is a public fund, created from resources destined solely to the execution of cultural programs, projects or actions. The distribution of resources was decided by the FNC Commission after having consulted the guidelines and actions with the Technical Committees of the eight sectors. Each committee is made up by representatives of the Sistema Minc and by ten representatives of civil society, including three knowledgeable experts.
