The Finnish National Commission for UNESCO consists of a Chairperson and 11 members representing high-level expertise in the fields of UNESCO. They are nominated by the Government for a four-year term.
The Chair of the Commission is Professor, Mr Tapio Markkanen. Other members are Professor, Mr Timo Cantell, Counsellor of Education, Ms Irmeli Halinen, Director of Television, Mr Olli-Pekka Heinonen, Director, Ms Gunvor Kronman, Executive Director, Ms Helena Laukko, Head of International Affairs, Mr Jarkko Lehikoinen, Director, Ms Johanna Maula, Director-General, Mr Jussi Nuorteva, Head of International Affairs, Ms Irina Piippo, Ombudsman, Mr Juha Rekola and Professor Emeritus, Ms Rauni Räsänen.
