Ministerio de Culturas,
16 February 2011, Bolivia

Elizabeth Salguero was appointed today, February 16, as Minister of Cultures of Bolivia’s Multinational State replacing Zulma Yugar. She is committed to formulating a cultural policy to benefit the country that promotes tourism, decolonization and interculturality.

The new authority, born in La Paz, committed to working closely with the three Viceministers of Cultures, directors, and civil servants of the Minister of Cultures.

Salguero pointed out that Andean culture has been privileged so far because the Government’s seat is placed in this area, but she will work to support all regions of Bolivia: “We will work for the Bolivian West and East because, we will embrace all cultures”, she added.

“We have many things to do in a short period of time. I thank the dear artist Zulma Yugar for her commitment to this process of change”, she pointed out when she was praising the work of the ex Minister of Cultures.

She called for the active participation of the cultural sector’s agents to go forward in this process of change led by the President Evo Morales.

On her behalf, the ex Minister of Cultures, Zulma Yugar, once an internationally acclaimed Bolivian singer, thanked the confidence placed in her by the Bolivian head of state to promote culture, nationally and internationally, as a fundamental pillar to propel the cultural revolution.

The Viceministers of Tourism and Interculturality, and the directors of the Ministry of Cultures attended. After a short meeting, the Minister visited Palacio Chico’s installations.
