The Minister of Culture, Ana de Hollanda, affirmed yesterday, during her arrival at the parade at the Rio de Janeiro school of samba, that the copyright law reform project will be taken up again in the following days.

“This case will be studied by the new person recently appointed for this duty. This issue is not resolved yet”, were Ana de Hollanda words, referring to Márcia Barbosa, the lawyer who will be appointed as the Director of the Copyright Department.

According the minister, Márcia will lead a team in charge of revising the proposal. “We will review the law currently in effect and the reform project that is not public yet, and we will listen to all existing demands”, she stated.

Ana de Hollanda explained that right after the public hearings to discuss the reform project, “there was great dissatisfaction”. “There were complaints from the musical sector that it had not been taken into account”, she declared.

The minister also commented criticism coming from rua do Rio carnival blocks, that complained about the fees paid to Escritório de Arrecadação e Distribuição (Ecad) –responsible for charging for the public exhibition of music–, but affirmed that she cannot intervene. “That is their direct responsibility”, she expressed.

The discussion on the payment of fees to institutions like Ecad was one of the issues the copyright law reform deals with, that is now being examined by Casa Civil.

Before entering the president’s box, the minister also commented the appointment of the political scientist Wanderly Guilherme dos Santos as Director of Fundação Casa de Ruy Barbosa. He replaced sociologist Emir Sader who had been chosen by the ministry but was not finally appointed.

“He [Wanderley Guilherme] is a person highly qualified for this position”, she affirmed, and informed that she will visit Casa de Ruy Barbosa next Thursday.
