The NAC says “Zwakala”

The Mazisi Kunene Foundation Trust in partnership with the NAC proudly presented the Zwakala Schools Poetry Project, teaching high school students the importance of arts, culture, African heritage creative expression and higher learning.

The programme has been facilitated across 15 different high schools in various township, rural and suburban areas of Kwa-Zulu Natal. The project aims to introduce Mazisi Kunene work’s to inspire and nurture a love for reading and writing in the context of African heritage preservation.

Learners are encouraged to form poetry clubs at their schools and eventually perform their works at the inter-schools poetry showcase hosted by Poetry Africa; the biggest international poetry event in KZN. Winning entrants received special prizes. The NAC remains a champion partner in this important heritage development programme.
