Design Round Table 2012 brings together design experts on 8 June

Arts Council of Finland ,
12 March 2012, Finland

The theme will be dissected by working groups, panels, case studies and lectures. The aim will be to seek models for increasing internationalisation and cooperation and to present best practices. The research unit of the Arts Council of Finland will also present its current study on the internationalisation of design.

The event will convene design experts from the national art councils throughout Finland, as well as representatives of design organisations and other design professionals from Scandinavia and Estonia. The aim is to increase the interaction between designers both nationally and internationally, as well as to promote joint design projects in Finland and neighbouring countries. Participation in the event is by invitation only.

The previous Design Round Table was organised in 2009 by the regional and national arts councils with the aim of promoting national design cooperation. This inspired the design exhibition “NowHere Finland” that was organised jointly by the arts councils. This exhibition will also be presented at the Design Round Table 2012. The objective of this year’s event is to stimulate similar cooperation projects also beyond Finland’s borders.

Helsinki is the 2012 World Design Capital together with Espoo, Vantaa, Kauniainen and Lahti.

The aim of the World Design Capital year is to improve the residents’ everyday lives and living environment, to promote international business opportunities and to foster the economy through design. The result will be an even better city for everyone.

The World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 comprises more than 200 stand-alone projects, public events and international designer gatherings.

The World Design Capital title is awarded every other year by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID).
