Panama will have a Ministry of Culture

The full National Assembly approved the General Project 416 for Culture, which proposes the creation of the Ministry of Culture in Panama.

The document, approved unanimously and without any rejection, made government to join opposition.

Rep. Juan Miguel Rios, said that the project to create the Ministry of Culture, may present a higher budget demans to cover the financial support to many activities in the country, especially in rural areas.

Farah Levy, director of the National Institute of Culture (INAC), said the deputies sent a "good message" to young Panamanians.

"For the first time I can see an Assembly that has put the country's interests above personal interests," he said.

The general project for culture, whose proponent is Deputy Jose Isabel Blandon, creates various tax incentives to encourage donation and investment in culture, mainly through the Culture Certificate,  representing a 35% reimbursement of cultural expenditure, in which the beneficiary may pay national and municipal taxes and special assessments rates.
