A photographic exhibit that portrays Ecuador’s cultural and natural diversity was inaugurated today in Beijing, China. This exhibition is the first step of an exchange that will favor mutual knowledge between both countries.

The images of “Hijos de las Cascadas Sagradas (Children of the Sacred Waterfalls)” and “Ecuador ama la vida: Andes, Costa, Amazonía y Galápagos desde la Mitad del Mundo (Ecuador Loves Life: Andes, Coast, Amazonia and Galapagos from the Middle of the World)” were captured by Nicolás Kingman and Patricio Estévez who was present at the opening that took place at the Art Gallery of the Capital Library.

This exhibition is part of the first Cultural Week of Ecuador in China which began the day before with the exhibition of the documentary by María Fernanda Restrepo “Con mi corazón en Yambó (With my Heart of Yambo)” about the torture, killing and disappearance of her brothers Carlos and Pedro by the National Police in 1988.

According to the Minister Erika Sylva, this exhibit expresses “the political will to strenghten cultural exchange and acknowledgement among our peoples”.

On behalf of the host country was present at the exhibition Li Hong, Deputy Director of International Relations of the Ministry of Culture and other personalities of the cultural sector.

Diplomats of Latin American nations and friends of the South American countries also attended the inaugural ceremony.

The cultural programme includes a gastronomic festival with recipes from the mountains and the coast, to which the music of the group La Malamaña will add joy with its presentation at Beijing’s Tianquiao Theatre tomorrow and at Dagang’s Cultural Center at the neighboring country of Tianjin next Friday.
