Minister of Culture resigns and is replaced by Senator Marta Suplicy

The Minister of Culture, Anna de Hollanda, resigned Tuesday 11 September from her position, apparently due to dissatisfaction with the lack of resources for the ministry, and was replaced by Senator Marta Suplicy. The resignation was formalized at a meeting between the minister and President Dilma Rousseff, according to an official of the Secretariat of Social Communication of the Presidency, which did not specify the reasons for the departure. It was also informed that the position will be occupied by Senator Marta Suplicy, who will assume the position on Thursday 13 September. Last month, the press published a letter sent by the Minister to the Ministry of Planning, in which she expressed her discomfort with the scarce resources of the ministry. According to political sources, the leak of the letter and the tone of the minister were disapproved by President Dilma, and affected the personal relationship between them. Anna de Hollanda, who was in office since January 2011, is the sister of singer and composer Chico Buarque, and she is also a singer and songwriter, although she developed her career in activities related to cultural management. In recent months, beyond the letter published by the press, the minister complained publicly about the government budgets intended for the cultural area.
