New film agreement signed

The Government and the film and television industry today signed the new film agreement for Swedish film that will apply from 2013 to 2015. The parties had already signed a declaration of intent on the agreement in January 2012.

The agreement will mean more resources for films, as funds will be increased by some SEK 30 million per year, most of which will go towards new support to drama series and expanded support to films for children and young people, and to short and documentary films.

In addition, the agreement is being modernised through the introduction of clearer gender equality objectives, the possibility of allocating support for innovative cross media projects' and greater technological neutrality as the cinema release requirement will be removed.

"I am delighted with this new and modern film agreement, which means increased resources and broader engagement in Swedish film," says Minister for Culture Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth.

"It is good for Swedish film that the Government and the film and television industry continue to take joint responsibility. The agreement creates long-term and stable rules, which is important for Swedish film," says Ms Adelsohn Liljeroth.

The agreement will not be valid until it is approved by the Government, which is planned to take place in the near future.
