The executive staff of the Ministry of Culture, headed by Minister José Antonio Rodríguez, met to discuss and analyze the proposal "Patronage Law", recently submitted to the Chamber of Deputies by legislator Manuel Jiménez. The law seeks to encourage the development of the cultural industry in the Dominican Republic.

Minister Rodriguez was accompanied in the meeting by Deputy Jimenez, Luis Brea Franco, coordinator of Cultural Heritage, Carlos Santos, coordinator of Institutional Development, Carlos Salcedo, executive advisor and Mirtha Olivares, coordinator of Creativity and Civic  Participation.

The Culture Ministry officials were introduced to Jimenez's proposal that they discussed at length, offering their views on a law project which seeks to create a system of incentives and promotion of culture, before it is approved by the Congress, according to a press release by the Ministry of Culture.

Speaking about the Patronage Law Minister Rodriguez said that it will bring benefits to the development of culture in general and that "what we are trying is to make people understand that culture has a value and that it contributes to the GDP ".

For his part, Jimenez said that "the idea is to innovate the management in which the State has a responsibility. The ministry’s innovation begins with the commitment”.

"Those of us Dominicans that produce (entrepreneurs, artists, institutions in general) are obliged, if indeed we want to develop this country, to commit ourselves and act, and that's what this law is, that culture can be seen as a common good. Thus, developing it and fulfilling it must be a shared commitment of the Dominican society, "said Jiménez.
