18 October 2012, Chile

Chile is the guest of honor of the fourth version of the event held between 19 and 21 October at the Metropolitan Design Center in Buenos Aires.
Gestionado por el Consejo de la Cultura, nuestro país será protagonista de la cuarta versión del encuentro que se realizará entre el 19 y 21 de octubre en el Centro Metropolitano de Diseño de Buenos Aires.
Twelve Chilean designers represent Chile in the IV version of Buenos Aires International Design Festival (FID), an event where Chile is the guest of honor, as a result of the management by the National Council of Culture and the Arts. The Festival will bring together designers and other experts that will address specific themes of design and the many disciplines with which it interacts.

The importance of Chile's presence at this event is that it allows to show the quality and progress of this discipline, including visual design, thus opening up new markets and opportunities for the still developing design industry. In this regard, the Minister of Culture, Luciano Cruz-Coke, said that "the main challenge is to promote exchange between designers and experts, with the aim of creating content, strengthen opportunities to provide training and assessment of discipline, contributing and exporting the talent of our artists, demonstrating the high level of local design.”
The presence of Chile at the FID was originated last year through an invitation by the Department of Design of the National Council of Culture and the Arts to the President of the Metropolitan Design Center in Buenos Aires, Enrique Avogadro, to foster exchange between the two countries in this field.

The Chilean representatives of the National delegation are: Angello García, Francisco Olea, Alberto Montt, Luis Piano (Piano & Piano), Francisco Gálvez, quienes estarán presentes en el encuentro. A estos se suma los trabajos de Manuel Córdova, Juan Carlos Berthelon, Julián Naranjo,  Miguel/Daniel Hernández/Luciano Vergara (Latinotype), Pedro Álvarez, Oscar Ríos and Pozo Marcic | Ensamble. The selection was made by curator Hernán Garfias, whose criteria are linked to the central theme of the Festival: "Design to conquer new territories," referring to the expansion into new disciplines and sectors where design has no place.
Thus, issues such as graphic design in the wine industry, the hotel industry (boutique), or typography, will be presented along with themed visual design, such as cartoon or in illustrations in the press.

The IDF will take place between 19 and 21 October at the Metropolitan Design Center (CMD) of the city of Buenos Aires. The festival will exhibit products of designers and artists and have creative spaces for children and adults, exhibitions, conferences, master classes, workshops, lectures, panel discussions, business spaces, installations, live action and special events.
