Art/Education in Iberoamerican countries

Brazil will host the next Ministerial Meeting of the Program Art / Education, Culture and Citizenship, between 23 and 26 October at the Windsor Guanabara Hotel in Rio de Janeiro. The fifth edition of the meeting is conducted by the Ministry of Culture (MinC) and Education (MEC), in partnership with the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI).

The event will bring together 60 participants and government representatives from 20 Latin American countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Portugal, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The meeting aims to spread knowledge and appreciation of Latin American cultural diversity and promote the Program Educational Goals 2021: Art / Education, Culture and Citizenship of the OEI. It also seeks to foster the development of citizenship skills, promote the incorporation of the culture of each country and of the whole of Latin America in the educational programs at schools, and to facilitate the exchange among managers and professionals involved in integration projects between art, culture and education.
On Tuesday, 23, the event will begin with a meeting between festival directors and national theatres and the OEI, as part of the Ibero-American Project of youth and children's theater of the OEI. Ziraldo, Karen and Carla Acioly Camurati are some of the names confirmed, among many others. The working groups will focus of different themes, such as field visits to see good practices and educational projects. Participants will visit, for example, the samba school Grande Rio Mirim Pimpolhos of the municipal school Rivadavia Correa, the Cultural Center of Rocinha and the group Nos do Morro.

The Secretariat of Cultural Policies (SPC/MicC) of the Ministry of Culture and through the Directorate of Education and Communication (DEC), focuses its actions on initiatives that interact between culture and education. For Juana Nunes, Director of Education for Culture and Communication, the meeting is an opportunity to show the good experiences of Brazil.

"The meeting reinforces the importance of building a permanent cultural policy for education. We are developing projects so that Brazilian culture will be disseminated through public schools, for example. The meeting of the OEI is an opportunity to exchange experiences and information with other Latin American countries, "said Juana.

In 2011, the Fourth Ministerial Meeting of Art / Education was held in Panama City.
