Minister of Culture, Luis Peirano Falconí, said his ministry is making efforts to prevent the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu to enter the list of UNESCO World Heritage in Danger.

He said the increased tourism threatens the preservation of cultural and natural heritage and therefore Unesco requested the formulation of a plan of the public use of the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.

"My ministry is progressively implementing an emergency plan, which provides internal circulation routes and the enhancement of other sectors, in order to decongest the route and diversify the visit," he revealed.
He also said that studies should be done on the impact of tourism on archaeological structures. He also emphasized the need to establish the number of visitors per day to support the Sanctuary.

Peirano estimated that these measures would be implemented until the first half of next year, stressing that in January the ministry will have prepared the plan of actions to prevent the Inca city enter the list of heritage sites at risk.
