Consejo Nacional de la Cultura y las Artes,
07 March 2013, Chile

With the objective to support artistic and educational projects that foster the development of arts and culture in the education of children and youth both in formal and informal education, the National Council for Culture and the Arts, through the Arts Education Promotion Fund (FAE) awarded projects in 10 establishments of 7 districts of the Region of Valparaiso with the amount of $ 73,797, 360.

Nationwide, the figure is 480 million pesos, increasing by 44% compared to last year.

The idea is that institutions recognized by the Ministry of Education (Mineduc) that are dependent of the municipal system or private nonprofit  institutions working in the field of culture, raise their initiatives with artists, cultural managers and educators. This happens through three lines funding: general curriculum, non-formal education and arts education, and through four modes: improving management and teaching, curriculum implementation and improvement; outreach and equipment and teaching materials.

The symbolic delivery of resources to the 10 winning institutions was held in the hall of the Community Activities Center of the Municipality of Quintero, one of the beneficiaries of the project "More materials, more creation, more art in our education.”
In this regard, the Director of the Regional Council of the Council of Culture, Rafael Torres, underlined the initiative that promotes the arts in education from early childhood. "This is a fund to support the arts in education, called FAE and it’s putting 73 million in the Valparaíso Region for 10 projects with a range of 22 communities. Most important to note here is that we do a crossover with the area of education. We believe it is essential to support formal and non-formal education, but always with an emphasis on the artistic and cultural, and of course enhancing the skills of students through various cultural activities, "he said.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for education, Patricia Colarte valued the contribution that will give a more comprehensive education to children of the region. "First of all we have to thank the Council of Culture for this support in this and other projects, which are favoring different educational institutions and kindergartens in our region. We as educators know well that for there to be the real development of the students, we have to do much more culture, more art and more sport. All this benefits our children in their learning and particularly helps them to be happier children.”

For his part, the Mayor of Quintero, Mauricio Carrasco, thanked the resources that will benefit the most vulnerable children in the district.
Nationally, National Council for Culture and the Arts issues more than 480 million to 64 winning institutions, increasing by 44% with the objective to develop and promote the arts and culture in the formation of children and youth.

For the second consecutive year, the FAE extends its coverage to educational institutions in formal and non-formal systems, allowing the development of both art schools, as cultural centers and other nonprofit organizations that promote education and knowledge in art and culture.
