The Minister of Culture, Diana Alvarez-Calderon Gallo, participated in the XVI Meeting of School Leaders for Regional Integration Liberteña in Huamachuco City, La Libertad, and awarded Professor Cleymer Jesus Agreda Rámirez, by promoting multiculturalism among youth in the region.

"Our cultural diversity is our main asset, but also one of our biggest challenges as a society," said Alvarez-Calderon in her address to the youth leaders.

The minister said that to deny cultural diversity in all these years has generated devaluation between populations, and consistently emphasized social exclusion, fragmentation and discrimination. Therefore it is necessary to assume the recognition and appreciation of our cultural diversity as a key factor for the development of a country that seeks to be inclusive.

"We have to build a different society of intercultural citizens, where there is a respectful coexistence without discrimination. We as Peruvians need to know ourselves better and that means being aware of the contributions of various cultural groups to Peru's development, "remarked Diana Alvarez-Calderón.
