Museums Association of the Caribbean Meets in Belize

The Museums Association of the Caribbean held its 24th Annual General meeting in Belize.

The National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) through, the Museum of Belize is honoured to host the annual  meeting of the Members of Museums Association of the Caribbean (MAC) as well as Museum professionals.

MAC was formed in 1987 to allow museums and related organisations and societies in the Caribbean to share their experiences and skills. Membership is open to any organization or individual with an interest in preserving the culture or heritage of the Caribbean.


MAC was previously hosted in Belize in 1993, when the Department of Museum was directed By Winnel Branche.

This year the meeting will be held on Oct 28-31, 2013 under the theme: “Pooling our Resources: Collaborations, Connections and Partnerships”.  The theme hopes to explore the ways in which Cultural organizations can collaborate to achieve their individual missions or projects.

Presnt at the opening ceremony held on Monday October 28th, 2013 at the Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza at 9:00 a.m. were Minister of Tourism and Culture, Hon. Manuel Heredia, Jr. who also presented the keynote address; President of the National Institute of Culture and History, Ms. Diane C. Haylock, President of  MAC, Mr. Cyril Saltibus as well as numerous members of MAC and other key personnels.
