The festival of Mardi Gras in New Orleans, USA, has a combined economic impact of more than US$760 million. The city has fewer than 400,000 citizens. Based on these statistics, Minister of the Arts and Multiculturalism Dr Lincoln Douglas said Trinidad and Tobago should never underestimate the impact of the cultural industry to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
