Colombia and Ecuador are joining forces to work on cultural content

Both countries are working to improve communication and cultural processes  through community radio networks.

The countries agreed on three working areas as the result of the First Binational Meeting of Communication and Culture. In the meeting, both countries seek to improve communication and cultural processes through radio.

The first area of work is about the production of content on topics such as post conflict, migration, cultural identity of border areas, children and gender. These themes were agreed upon by the participants and organizations attending the meeting in Puerto Caicedo, Putumayo.

The second area has to do with the sustainability of the production center for cultural contents and the Community Network stations in Putumayo,  The process incolved evaluating the role of the network as an agent of communication in Putumayo. In this process will include the radio network of Ecuador as well as the Latin American Association of Radio Education, ALER.

The third area is formation and the related planned actions are: strengthening the traveling school of communication that allows to train more content producers in the region; professionalism of those engaged in radio work; creation of a collective communication training for Putumayo; internships  between content producers in Colombia and Ecuador in order to generate new content from different  contexts. Each of these areas will be accompanied by assisting staff of networks of community stations in Ecuador.

Finally, it was proposed to create a binational committee to stimulate more meetings between community radio networks and content creators in order to coordinate joint actions.
