CNCA assumes a prominent role in a Latin American organisation of safeguarding of cultural heritage

The National Council for Culture and the Arts (CNCA) - representing Chile- takes over the presiidency of the Boardof theRegionalCentre for the Safeguardingof the IntangibleCulturalHeritage (CRESPIAL), an organizationcomprising15 countries in LatinAmerica.

The NationalCouncil for Cultureand the Arts (CNCA)became president of theBoard of Directors(CAD)of theRegionalCentre for the Safeguardingof the IntangibleCulturalHeritage (CRESPIAL). The agreementwas made on Saturday inQuito,in the ninthmeeting of the organisation.

TheCNCAwill assume thisrolefor two years, throughits Section ofCulturalHeritage.Thehead ofthis unit, PazUndurragaexplainedfromEcuadorthatthis nomination is"a recognition ofChile's participationin theCRESPIALand of the experience and trust we have acquiredand generated in the member countries.For ourdepartmentthis taskis a challengeand an opportunityto move forwardinpartnership with the countriesof Latin America forthe safeguardingof the IntangibleCulturalHeritage. "


Chilewill be joinedin this effortbyCosta Rica,who will assume theDAC Secretariat, consideredthe highest political authorityof the center,which aims to contributeto the formulation ofpublic policies that supportcultural diversity ofLatin America,inaccordance withthe spirit ofthe Conventionfor the Safeguardingof the IntangibleCulturalHeritage (2003).

During the meetingin Quito, the member countries of CRESPIAL talked about the regulationsof the institutionfor the next periodand reviewed the partial management report for2014 as partof thebiennialoperating plan2014-2015.The 14thmeeting of the ExecutiveCommittee(COE) was also held, with renewed positions.  Ecuador and Guatemala assumed the roles of the Presidency and the Secretariat.

CRESPIALwas founded in2006in Parisafter the signingof an agreementbetween UNESCOand the Government ofPeru,to promote and supportactionsfor securing and safeguardingof the intangible culturalheritage of Latin America.

The organisation includes Argentina,Bolivia, Brazil,Colombia,Costa Rica,Cuba,Ecuador,El Salvador,Guatemala,Mexico,Paraguay,Peru,Uruguay,Venezuelaand Chile, representedinQuitoforPazUndurragaand the head of theCitizenshipand Culture Unit,PabloRojas.These meetings wereattended by FernandoBrugman,on behalfof UNESCO.
