Ministry of Culture committed to promoting libraries

Over $ 341 million will be distributed through eleven open calls that seek to strengthen public libraries, research on the history and culture of Colombia, and recovery of literature, film and sound heritage.

Within the National Incentives Program, the Ministry of Culture, the National Library of Colombia and the National Network of Public Libraries awarded this year $ 341 million in grants, awards and fellowships for researchers, public or private entities, departmental networks or district libraries, soloists and ensembles, as well as internships for college students and recent graduates who wish to contribute their knowledge to libraries.

A total of eleven calls are covering the areas of music, archives, anthropology, history, historical memory, musical documentary heritage, cultural management, photography, communication and cultural management and movable, bibliographic and documentary cultural heritage.

The calls include research grants on the collections of the National Library that promote assessment, organization, access and knowledge of bibliographic and documentary funds held by the Library, as well as research grants for the preservation and dissemination of bibliographic and documentary heritage for knowledge and research on the history and culture of the country in each of our regions.

In order to support public libraries in the country, there is a call of national internships for college students in their last semesters or recent graduates of social sciences, humanities and library science who might be interested in internships in rural libraries located in 13 departments.

Other stimuli aimed at strengthening public libraries in the country are: grants for the management and development of departmental and municipal public library networks, research grants and communication for positioning libraries through the development and dissemination of national cultural content, and incentives for public libraries to make creative use of technology in service delivery.

For ensembles, soloists and researchers as well as public and private institutions around the country, the Musical Documentation Center of the National Library, offers four open calls: Series of concerts "Music with Tempo Colombiano", with $ 60 million intended for a maximum of 26 soloists or groups to perform artistic presentations at the National Library, with works by unknown Colombian composers. This call closes on March 6th.

In addition, the Ministry offers a grant of regional musical document management, research grant and a scholarship for mapping of musical practices in Colombia.

New this year, the National Library of Colombia launches a scholarship for the design and development of information services targeted at victims of the armed conflict. With a boost of $ 20 million, this fellowship will support the creation of a referral service for recovery, in national and regional newspapers or other bibliographic and documentary resources, information necessary to document and demonstrate the condition of the victims of the internal armed conflict in our country.
