10 March 2015, Chile

Edgardo Bruna, President of the National Union of Artists (UNA), expressed his joy for the approval of the initiative: "This law not only promotes new talent but our musicians will have the opportunity to show the great quality of production. It also protects our cultural identity. "

With 16 votes in favor, six against and three abstentions, the Board adopted the report of the joint committee on an initiative setting minimum percentages of national music and folk roots to broadcasting.

The regulation, which shall be promulgated by the President of the Republic in the coming months, states that broadcasters must include in their daily schedule at least 20% of music composed or played by Chilean musicians, and within this, a minimum of 25 % should be emerging musical compositions or performances.

Edgardo Bruna acknowledged the hard work of musicians that throughout Chile and in all scenarios fought to build this law: "This victory is also a proof of the mobilizing ability of artists and of the affection that people show to the creators. "

This resolution, submitted by members of the parliament in 2007, follows the approval in the House of Representatives and then the Senate of the report issued by a joint commission should that was formed to reach agreement between the two chambers.
