In order to contribute to the fight against racism and discrimination in Colombia, the Ministry of Culture organises several activities around the country during the month of May.

The Ministry of Culture joins this remembrance that seeks to contribute to the visibility, recognition and participation of black communities, Afro descendants and other communities of Colombia.
 
Also, this remembrance is part of this year's International Decade for People of African Descent, proclaimed by Resolution 68/237 of the United Nations General Assembly, to be held from 2015 to 2024. The Decade represents an auspicious period for not only the international community to take effective measures for recognition, justice and development of this population; but also an opportunity for the Government, civil society and all other relevant actors to take effective measures in relation to the full enjoyment of economic, social, cultural, civil and political rights of people of African descent and equal participation in all aspects of society.
