Ruling state council on Opera Holland

Performing Arts Fund,
16 July 2015, Netherlands

It was the Performing Arts Fund's decision to award a multi-year funding 2013-2016 because of inadequate budget. This case had a number of fundamental questions arise, which were not only for the Performing Arts Fund is important, but also for other grant providers. One of those questions was whether applicants who are rejected can appeal to the fact that another applicant will be honored. The Council of State proposes to curb those possibilities. As a result, the present method can be maintained. The evaluation by an advisory committee that eventually applications are put in order to determine who does and who does not receive any subsidy does not have to be adjusted. However, says the statement of the Council of State that any applicant who receives no subsidy request applications have been accepted or should have access. That was until now not common. The State Council has also examined the opinion on the application of Netherlands Opera. The State Council comes to a different conclusion about the entrepreneurship of Opera Holland then the Performing Arts Fund. The Performing Arts Fund would have as "good", but according to the Council of State is the 'very good' place. Therefore, the Performing Arts Fund must again decide on the application of Opera Holland. The Performing Arts Fund is pleased that the procedure was completed before the new multi-annual subsidy is determined. The Performing Arts Fund and Opera Holland will talk about the implications of the decision.
