Minister of Culture Ernesto Ottone and the mayor of Santiago, Carolina Tohá, among other authorities, participated in the opening of NAVE - the first center of creation and artistic residency in Chile and Latin America.

In the opening ceremony, attendees witnessed a surprise performance prepared by representatives of the so called Ministry of Movement Affairs, who symbolically reflected the need for greater support for dance and performance in Chile.

In her opening speech, the president of the Creative Heritage Foundation, an organization in charge of managing the new cultural space, María Teresa Petric explained what motivated them as a family to carry out this project.

"I've always felt and thought that the artist's life is hard, without much compensation and a fleeting permanence of the work. So this is why we wanted to make a space where there is the no pressure of limited time, the box office, and where the artist is the star, not the audience, "she said.

She also explained why the main space has only 146 seats, "in order to the artist to take over the space and make its theirs, without compromise and to move without limits.

For his part, Minister of Culture, Ernesto Ottone, referred to the contribution of this project saying that it is an ultra-modern format for our country, that he hopes that will awaken interest to be replicated in different parts of Chile.

"It's great news for Chile to have a space like NAVE, unique on the continent with these characteristics, where artists can develop residences in order to concentrate on the creative process and share experiences with their peers. All under one roof, in a patrimonial infrastructure with surprising architectural proposal serving the national and international artistic experience, "said Ottone.
