Wednesday October 14, 2015 will be observed as “The First Peoples Heritage Day” in Trinidad and Tobago. This is significant, because it was on October 14, 1637 that the Great Chieftain and Warrior of the Nepuyo people, Hyarima, attacked St. Joseph, the Spanish Capital of Trinidad and destroyed the town, causing the survivors to withdraw to the Mainland of South America. This was a victory for Hyarima.
