WorldCP meetings held in Wrocław to tie in with Compendium Assembly

On 11-13 November, the Executive Director of IFACCA, Sarah Gardner, and Research Manager, Annamari Laaksonen, participated in a number of meetings in Wrocław, Poland. 

 

On 11 November, the Asia-Europe Foundation organised the 4th WorldCP-Asia Meeting for the authors of the Asian WorldCP profiles. The meeting  focused on documenting the policies relating to arts and culture in several Asian countries through the development of national profiles. The meeting, which provided a platform for dialogue and networking among Asian authors and the European compendium experts, was attended by experts from  ten countries. Within the meeting, the WorldCP International Working Group  reunited for the fifth time to talk about the future of WorldCP. 

 

On 12-13 IFACCA and the Asian WorldCP experts participated in the 14th Assembly of Experts of the Council of Europe / ERICarts Compendium of Cultural Policies & Trends in Europe (Culture and Democray III: A Human Rights Approach to Cultural Policies) that was hosted by the City of Wrocław (the European Capital of Culture 2016) in cooperation with the National Centre for Culture, Warsaw. The assembly culminated in a public session on 13 November focused on the right and access to culture in the human rights system. 

 

In addition to the WorldCP meetings, Annamari Laaksonen participated in the meeting of the Steering Committee of the ‘Wrocław Commentaries’, a project to create a Handbook in the form of an alphabetical reference work ("concise dictionary") and a related website.  The project will help to create or facilitate a normative and interpretive context of the legal framework on culture and human rights. The managing editors of the Wrocław Commentaries are Andreas Wiesand (Germany), Kalliopi Chainoglou (Greece) and Anna Sledinska-Simon (Poland).  The handbook will be published in 2016.
