About interdepartmental archaeological commission

On May 30 and June 1, the interdepartmental archaeological commission will meet. According to Article 26 of the Law about “Historical and Cultural Monuments and Preservation and Use of Historical Environment”, interdepartmental Archaeological Commission is a component body that gives archaeological excavation permits, measures the appropriateness and discusses the effectiveness issues and methodological conclusions.

The Committee heard in 2016, 39 archaeological excavation reports of excavation permits, in the areas of 4 monuments excavations were not carried out.

In 2016 excavations were carried out by the following organizations: the Archaeology and Ethnography Institute, "Cultural Heritage Research Centre" in Armenian Studies Centre Chirac National Academy of Sciences, "Erebuni" Historical-Archaeological Museum-Reserve, the Monuments Restoration Centre CJSC and "Ethnos" cultural Centre of scientific research.

The reporting period include stone age, Neolithic-Chalcolithic, Bronze, Iron, Urartian, Hellenistic, ancient and medieval periods.

During the meeting on June 1 granted a permit for the excavation from  36 proposals submitted 14. Archaeological investigations will be carried out in Shirak province Azatan, Jrapi communities graveyards, Haykadzor the fortress-towns, the Sepasar the early Bronze Age settlement Jradzor, the castle town Karnut of the tombs, the historical capital Artashatin Lusarat community in Ararat, Aragatsotn Arteni 1 cave and archaeological sites, tombs of kings Aghcq, "Cinderella," the abode of Vayots Dzor province of Armenia, Areni cave complex,Yelpin community, Gnishakadzori medieval complex of caves Aghitu Syunik Region 3 and 7, Srashen of St. Hripsime Church near Gndevaz endangered historic sites in the area, Tagavoranist sites in Vanadzor, Lori province.

4 designed excavations were carried out in collaboration with foreign partners.

The other 22 reports archaeological interdepartmental commission will discuss during the next meeting on June 9.
