During the Third National Meeting of Cultural Spaces held on Tuesday 11 July at the National Archive in Santiago, the Minister of Culture, Ernesto Ottone, launched the first land register of public and private cultural infrastructure in Chile, a study that has recorded a total of 2,298 spaces destined to cultural activity throughout the entire national territory.

During the presentation, Minister Ottone said that today more than ever it is necessary to know, not only where the cultural spaces are, but also how and with what resources the cultural infrastructure in our country works and how they are linked to their local context. "Beyond the data, the development of this publication responds to the need to reach cultural spaces with national and regional public policies, but also with municipal cultural plans, which translate into tools and support mechanisms relevant to the local needs and demands ", emphasized the Minister.

He added that civil society participation and the creation of a sense of belonging in cultural spaces are fundamental for its functioning and sustainability. "In Chile, the public and private cultural infrastructure of today is built with and from the community, thinking and working so that its people can exercise and enjoy their rights of access and participation to culture and the arts. Without people, these projects are empty structures of meaning, especially in the case of the State cultural infrastructure, which considers culture as a tool for social and economic development, "said the Secretary of State.
